Challenge: Manage Digital Assets

PME needed to manage a large number of digital assets in a variety of formats across several platforms and technologies. In their daily operation, PME receives dozens of digital files on multiple media and formats that are all needed in their post-production process. Some files come to the company on DAT, others on DVD and yet others are electronically transmitted to their file servers. All the while, PME employees are creating digital files and compiling them together to create new assets, all of which must be tracked and controlled.

Solution: Automate the Work Flow

Due to the nature of PME’s use of digital assets, their needs focused on managing the location and format of the various digital assets they use to produce the final products. Their main requirement was the ability to determine exactly where an asset was and when it was deposited in that location in order to facilitate the overall process of multiplexing the various files into the video formats. A digital asset archive system is what PME needed to regain control of their assets.

Through the use of a proven requirements and design process, RBZ&A was able to lay out a system that would enable PME to take control of their assets. The system takes output from various devices as data inputs and automatically routes the assets to the next step in the process. Rather than receive a work order and search for the required assets, workers are now simply directed to the assets required to fulfill the project. The digital asset archive system provides PME a management tool which saves them time and increases their overall productivity.
